Common Myths About Phone Screen Replacements

There are plenty of rumours floating around about phone repairs — especially when it comes to replacing a cracked screen. Let’s clear up some of the most common myths we hear in the workshop.

“You must use an official Apple or Samsung store.”

Factory repairs are not your only safe option.

Local repair shops (the reputable ones, at least) use high-quality parts and follow the same disassembly and reassembly methods — often at a fraction of the price and with far quicker turnaround.

“Aftermarket screens are all terrible.”

Some are, yes — but not all.

There’s a huge difference between low-grade aftermarket parts and premium/OEM-grade replacements.

A good technician will tell you exactly which part they’re installing and what the differences are. Transparency is the key — if they can’t explain it, avoid them.

“Replacing the screen will wipe my data.”

Screen replacements do not affect data.

Your photos, messages, apps, and settings stay exactly as they are. The only time this becomes a risk is if the device has deeper damage (like a failing logic board), and we’ll always warn you before any work begins.

“Small cracks are fine — you can leave them.”

It may still work, but it’s not fine.

Even tiny cracks compromise the screen’s strength, letting dust and moisture in and making a bigger break far more likely. Early repair is almost always cheaper than waiting for a catastrophic shatter.

“It’s cheaper to replace the phone.”

Most of the time, absolutely not.

A typical screen replacement costs far less than buying a new device — and avoids the extra costs of cases, chargers, screen protectors, and setup time.

Repairing first is nearly always the better value.
